LEXINGTON, KY – The Rotary Club of Lexington held its weekly meeting Thursday, Dec. 12th , at the Red Mile, 1200 Red Mile Road. The program’s guest speaker is Mark W. Summers, PhD, Thomas Clark Professor of History at the University of Kentucky.
Dr. Summers is one of the foremost experts on U.S. presidential history and a prolific author, master storyteller and often a contributor to news sources for expert commentary on any number of topics related to U.S. presidents.
To quote Rotary Club President-Elect Jamie Schrader, “This week’s meeting will be a blockbuster and guaranteed to be fascinating for all,” with Dr. Mark W. Summers, Thomas D. Clark Professor, UK Department of History, as the keynote speaker. He is one of the foremost experts on US presidential history and a prolific author, master storyteller, and often a contributor to news sources for expert commentary on any number of topics related to US presidents.
Dr. Summers earned his PhD at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1980. His research interests include 19th century US history, political history, and political cartoons. His current research includes a study of the mechanics of Gilded Age politics and the Andrew Johnson impeachment about which he is writing two books.
