Sixth District Congressman Andy Barr, Commonwealth of Kentucky

LEXINGTON, KY – The Rotary Club of Lexington  held its weekly meeting Thursday, February 23, at the Mane on Main, Chase Bank building on Main St. The program’s guest speaker was  Congressman Andy Barr, Sixth District, Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Today Rotary is proud to welcome to the podium, Sixth District Congressman Andy Barr, Kentucky’s Sixth District Congressman since being first elected in 2013.

Congressman Barr is a senior member of the House Financial Services and Foreign Affairs Committees. Congressman Barr serves as Chairman of the Financial Institutions and Monetary Policy Subcommittee. This Subcommittee has oversight over the Federal Reserve and plays a huge role in addressing the ongoing inflation crisis.  Recently, Speaker McCarthy also appointed Congressman Barr to serve on the House Select Committee on the strategic competition between the U.S. and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

During his time in Congress, Congressman Barr has been a champion for Kentucky families, farmers, and small business owners, fighting to keep taxes low and against big government regulations.  At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Congressman Barr was a key architect of the Paycheck Protection Program, which delivered forgivable loans to small businesses to stay open and keep paychecks flowing to their workers.

On his webpage, he identifies a variety of top priorities as he seeks to serve the constituents of his District.  Among those are agriculture, education, energy, financial services, healthcare, the equine industry, and veterans.

Congressman Barr graduated from Lexington’s Henry Clay High School in 1992, earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Philosophy from the University of Virginia in 1996, and received his law degree from the University of Kentucky in 2001.

Congressman Barr is the son of our Club’s own Garland Barr and he resides in Lexington, Kentucky with his two daughters, Eleanor and Mary Clay.
