Born and raised in Columbus Ohio, Kim went to college at the University New Mexico in Albuquerque graduating with a degree in English and Communications. Married for 39 years this August. Kim and Larry have two kids, Lauren and Brett, who have two children each and live in Huntsville Alabama. Kim enjoys spending most of her free time with family, especially her 4 wonderful grandchildren, Tyson age 7, Wynne age 5, Finley age 4, and Logan age 2.
Before moving to Lexington in 2011, Kim and Larry spent 10 years living in Huntsville; after their move from Columbus Ohio for Kim’s work. Kim has spent 35 plus years in the financial services industry, most of that time in leadership, managing agencies for large companies. In 2015, Kim opened her own firm, OneCommonwealth Financial Group located in downtown Lexington.
Volunteering and giving back have been a way of life for Kim. She fondly remembers her mom working on various volunteer projects as she was growing up, setting the stage for her passion to help others and make a difference wherever she can.
Kim loves to travel, cook, entertain, and watch sports of any kind. Most of all, Kim enjoys people; developing new relationships, learning new things, and engaging in new activities are always a goal for her.
For the girl who got “talks too much” in elementary school, she has made a career of having conversations with people, listening with empathy, and building lifelong caring relationships. Rotary has been a natural fit for her, giving her the opportunity to build lifelong friendships and make a difference in the lives of others.
Dear fellow Rotarians,
I am honored to step into this leadership role for our club. Our club has a long history of providing service to the local community and we want to build on that history to make us stronger than ever.
This year we are focused on continuing the momentum we have built over the past year in growing our membership, offering a variety of social activities to enhance fellowship between our members, and bring more opportunities for volunteering and service to you.
As I mentioned with your dues notice, over the past few years, the way our members participate in the club has continued to evolve. Our work and home lives are constantly changing, and we want to provide flexibility, access, and support in helping you achieve your goals as a member of our club.
There are many different ways to be involved in supporting Rotary International and the Rotary Club of Lexington. Opportunities for service is why people join Rotary, but they stay because of the fellowship with other Rotarians.
To quote Gandhi – The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. Let us continue to build our club in Lexington, by letti ng people know that we are PEOPLE OF ACTION, who care and make an impact with our belief in SERVICE ABOVE SELF. We have so much to be proud of!
I look forward to serving others WITH you and continuing the legacy of the Rotary Club of Lexington into the future as we CREATE HOPE IN THE WORLD. Let’s have fun and make this year an unforgettable one!
In your service,
Kim Johnson
2023-2024 President
