Dr. Burton Webb can trace his Kentucky roots back to Samuel Porter, Jr., who entered the Commonwealth in 1777, just one year after the start of the war for independence from Great Britain. For the next six generations, his family lived in Eastern Kentucky raising crops and transporting coal, though his grandmother left the Commonwealth during one of the great diasporas of the twentieth century. Dr. Webb holds degrees in Zoology, Biology, and Medical Immunology. While most of his research has been focused on the immunobiology of cancer, he studied virology and gene therapy with Arun Srivastava. Dr. Webb returned to his Kentucky roots in 2016 to lead the University of Pikeville through almost a decade of unprecedented growth. Building a strong team is critically important to the success of any institution and he has been blessed to work with incredible leaders at the University of Pikeville. Dr. Webb is married to Dr. Kay Webb (37 years) and the couple has two adult children (Kelsea and Mason) and two incredibly smart Australian Shepherds.
