2025-12-11T16:33:20-05:00

It IS the most wonderful time of the year. As we approach this joyous holiday season, I want to take a moment to reflect on the remarkable year we have had at the Rotary Club of Lexington. It has been a year filled with service, camaraderie, and meaningful contributions to our community. This festive season is a time for gratitude and giving, and I am incredibly thankful for each of you and the dedication you have shown in living out our Rotary motto, "Service Above Self." Your commitment to our projects and initiatives has made a significant impact, and together, we [...]

Rotary Hits a Winner with Inaugural Pickleball Fundraiser!

2025-12-09T09:49:36-05:00

The Rotary Club of Lexington’s Pickle N Pints fundraiser served up a great night of fun, connection, and easygoing competition. Hosted by PKL Lex and fueled by beer from Country Boy Brewing, the event brought together Rotarians, business leaders, sponsors, and friends around pickleball, pints, and community. One of the most popular parts of the night was the beginner tournament, designed for those who had never played before or had only stepped on a court once or twice. It proved to be the perfect on ramp for new players and a reminder that pickleball really is for everyone. The mix [...]

Dec. 4 – Donald “Don” Colliver, Ph.D., P.E

2025-12-09T09:33:52-05:00

Few topics today exceed that of global warming for presenting both factual and political disagreement over whether or not our earth is warming and if it is, why – natural vs. human activities, its impacts, and the best way to address it. A quick look at the NASA website (science.nasa.gov) contains the following rather stark assessment: “There is unequivocal evidence that the earth is warming at an unprecedented rate. Human activity is the principal cause.” Joining Lexington Rotarians this week to dig deeper into this existential topic is Donald “Don” Colliver, Ph.D., P.E. In a presentation entitled Does the Earth Have [...]

New Member Deep Dive: Ruth Ann Palumbo

2025-12-01T11:18:30-05:00

It should come as no surprise that Ruth Ann Palumbo has joined the Rotary Club of Lexington as she has spent most of her life in service to others. A native of Lexington, she spent years doing volunteer work (receiving the Governors Volunteer Activist Award in 1989) before running for and winning a seat in the Kentucky House of Representatives, where she served for thirty-four years. During her tenure, Ruth Ann served on numerous committees, chairing the House Economic Development Committee for twenty years, promoting Kentucky’s signature industries and securing funding for Kentucky’s colleges and universities. Ruth Ann is particularly proud [...]

Governor Andy Beshear and Our New Kentucky Home

2025-12-09T15:02:08-05:00

The evening of November 12 was a special one for the Rotary Club of Lexington, as over 200 Rotarians, visiting Rotarians, Rotaract members, and guests gathered at The Mane on Main to hear from Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear. Beshear, who proudly noted that he grew up in Lexington, is currently serving his second term as the Commonwealth’s 63rd Governor, having first been elected to that position in 2019. A Democrat, he previously served as Kentucky’s Attorney General and is the son of former Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear. As a Democrat with relatively high approval ratings in a state otherwise run by [...]

Nov. 13 – Jack Givens and Rob Bolton, Kentucky Basketball

2025-12-03T09:50:24-05:00

This week Rotarians are invited to climb into the “way-back machine” and revisit the glorious – for UK basketball fans – year of 1978. That was the year that the Wildcats defeated the Duke Blue Devils at the Checkerdome in St. Louis for their fifth NCAA national championship. And who better to travel with on that journey than two men who were there, front and center, Jack Givens and Rob Bolton. Jack “Goose” Givens, was born September 21, 1956, in Lexington, Kentucky. Growing up in a housing project, he honed his skills at Lexington’s Douglass Park in the Dirt Bowl league [...]

They finished STAR with their service project partnering with Revive Ministries, enhancing their landscape, in Nicholasville, Kentucky. This was a great class and one that is sure to make an impact in our community and club. Spring Yearling Class Completes Service Project

2025-11-03T16:55:34-05:00

The Rotary Club of Lexington’s Spring Yearling Class recently had the privilege of partnering with Revive Ministries in Nicholasville, Kentucky for a meaningful morning of service. Together with Heather Johnson, Director of Development at Revive, the group spent several hours cleaning and beautifying the grounds of the Revive Life House and the Common Ground Resource Center. It was a rewarding opportunity to support the incredible work Revive is doing in our community and to strengthen our commitment to Service Above Self. Revive Life House’s substance use treatment program began operations in 2016. Since that time, it has served over 4,000 clients [...]

Roosters and Basketball: Nothing to Crow About!

2025-11-03T16:54:10-05:00

In spite of the UK basketball team’s takedown at the hands of Georgetown University, Lexington Rotarians nonetheless enjoyed an evening of fellowship, beer, and wings at Roosters last week. It was a small but enthusiastic group that included transferring Rotarian from Bowling Green, Duncan Hines. In the picture from left - Kevin Weaver, Kurt Adams, Susan Adams, Duncan Hines, Kaye Hughes, Bret Anderson, Chris Campbell, DG Linton - Gridley, and Michael Stutland. Thanks to the Social Committee for continuing to offer a variety of social options for our off-weeks.

2025-11-10T15:07:03-05:00

Few topics are of more interest to Rotarians than the economic health and vitality of our community and Commonwealth. And who better to address those issues with us than the leadership of two of Kentucky’s pre-eminent economic development entities: Commerce Lexington (CL) and the Kentucky Chamber. Bob Quick, Chief Executive Officer of CL, along with Ashli Watts, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Kentucky Chamber will address all things economic in a panel format, with Andi Johnson, Chief Policy Officer of Regional Engagement for CL serving as Moderator.
