ROTARIANS AND THE HOPE CENTER BRING HOPE TO THE HOMELESS

Third Thursdays are traditionally the days when the Rotary Club of Lexington foregoes a formal meeting, and instead looks for ways to “Do Rotary, Differently”.  Last week was no exception.

Club Members supported the critical mission of The Hope Center by preparing ham and cheese sandwiches for the HopeMobile, which delivers meals and essential resources directly to individuals throughout the community. Rotarians were welcomed and guided by Chris Peck, fellow-Rotarians and Chief Advancement Officer of The Hope Center, whose leadership continues to strengthen the organization’s impact across Lexington. Rotarians expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve and to gain a deeper understanding of the organization’s work. The visit offered a clear reflection of Rotary’s commitment to Service Above Self and the power of strong community partnerships in addressing complex challenges with purpose and dignity.

The Hope Center serves as a comprehensive, campus-based resource for individuals experiencing homelessness in Lexington, delivering far more than emergency shelter. Its continuum of care includes structured recovery programs grounded in accountability and life skills, employment support, and pathways to both transitional and permanent housing. The campus also features an on-site medical clinic and dedicated services supporting veterans. The recently completed Quantrell Center has further expanded the organization’s capacity, providing a modern, purpose-built environment that enhances both service delivery and dignity for those working toward stability. At the center of daily operations is the Jacobs Hope Cafeteria, which prepares and serves three meals a day, 365 days a year, ensuring consistent access to nourishment.

Chris noted his thanks to his friends in Rotary, saying “It meant so much to me to have fellow Rotarians volunteer here!  Thank you so much for always being so supportive.”

It was also noted that The Hope Center is currently in need of basic hygiene items for men, including shampoo, razors, toothpaste, toothbrushes, socks, bath towels, and men’s underwear. To donate, please reach out to Alisha D. Chaffin (alisha@zegaroffice.com) or Chris Peck (cpeck@hopectr.com).
