May 7 – Leon Hirsh, Past District Governor and Polio Chair, The Fight for the Oral Polio Vaccine

2026-05-12T09:28:56-04:00

Mention Rotary and its good works and it is likely that the PolioPlus campaign will be the first thing to come to mind. The PolioPlus campaign was initiated by Rotary International back in 1985, before many of our current members were born. Because it largely involves activities geographically removed from us, it would be easy to lose sight of the program’s continued importance and needs. Today’s speaker, Leon Hirsh, is here to ensure that doesn’t happen. Past District Governor Hirsh was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is a graduate of the Kentucky Military Institute and Transylvania University. Leon has lived in Pensacola, Florida since 1980. He remains a practicing financial advisor and has spent the lion's share of his ...

Apr 30 – Gabby Gaudet, Keeneland’s Communications Director with Tom Leach, Voice of the Wildcats and Expert Handicapper

2026-05-12T09:35:31-04:00

As April slowly meanders into Spring, we find ourselves in what is arguably the high season in Kentucky. The charm and gentility of the Keeneland Spring meet morphs into the pomp and circumstance of the Kentucky Derby and the Kentucky Oaks. Both are instrumental to Kentucky’s claim of being the “horse capital of the world. Today Rotarians are privileged to hear about both, from two individuals who, as they say, should know: Gabby Gaudet, Keeneland’s, Director of Communications, and respected broadcaster Tom Leach. A respected voice in Thoroughbred racing with more than a decade of national media experience, Gaudet, who joined Keeneland in 2025, oversees Keeneland’s strategic communications efforts. In ...

Rotarians and The Hope Center Bring Hope to the Homeless

2026-04-20T11:53:34-04:00

ROTARIANS AND THE HOPE CENTER BRING HOPE TO THE HOMELESS  Third Thursdays are traditionally the days when the Rotary Club of Lexington foregoes a formal meeting, and instead looks for ways to “Do Rotary, Differently”.  Last week was no exception.  Club Members supported the critical mission of The Hope Center by preparing ham and cheese sandwiches for the HopeMobile, which delivers meals and essential resources directly to individuals throughout the community. Rotarians were welcomed and guided by Chris Peck, fellow-Rotarians and Chief Advancement Officer of The Hope Center, whose leadership continues to strengthen the organization’s impact across Lexington. Rotarians expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve and to gain a deeper understanding of the organization’s ...

March 26 – Ed Holmes, Affordable Housing in Lexington

2026-04-08T19:17:04-04:00

Being the informed citizens that Rotarian tend to be, it is likely no surprise to our membership that America has an affordable housing crisis. According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC), there is a national shortage of over seven million affordable homes for more than 10.8 million extremely low-income families. Why does this matter? Again according to the NLIHC, housing is “the key to reducing intergenerational poverty and increasing economic mobility.” Today’s presenter, Ed Holmes, will make it clear that Lexington/Fayette County is not immune from this crisis. As you will hear, we have a housing gap of over 22,549 units!  He will dig into ...

2026-03-24T15:07:59-04:00

Each year, Rotary Clubs and District Governors around the world present the Cliff Dochterman Award to individuals who exemplify outstanding service to both Rotary and Scouting. Recipients are selected for their meaningful contributions to Scouting and for demonstrating exceptional leadership. Our club has a long tradition of supporting Scouting. From the early days of owning the first Scout camp—Camp Offutt on the Kentucky River—to later helping develop Camp McKee, and even sponsoring a troop for disadvantaged youth, Rotary has proudly supported the Scouting movement. This year, we are honored to recognize Edwin Gibson for his dedication to Scouting and youth development. Edwin served as a ...
